Rinden Kanost Collection

The Rinden Kanost Collection is comprised of images photographed by Arthur O. Rinden and made available by his daughter, Margaret Kanost.  Arthur Rinden was an American missionary in Asia, working mainly in China, beginning in 1928.  Included here are five groups of images selected from his broader collections of images.  These groups include images of

- China in the 1930’s

- The Lolo people of far western China, 1948

- China in 1979, a return trip by Arthur Rinden

- Lunghwa, slides of watercolor paintings of life in a Japanese internment camp for European civilians in China during WWII

- Japan during the reconstruction following WWII, 1951
